Portrait of the Swiss Federal Council
For the 2026 Federal Council portrait, the Federal President of Switzerland, Guy Parmelin, wanted a fresh perspective—the younger generation’s perspective. He requested a team of photography students from the Vevey Vocational School.
Four aspiring photographers in training were selected from different classes, each with specific skills that benefited the team and the project: Nathan Bugniet, Eileen Fraefel, Samantha Keller, and Léo Margueron. Teachers supported the students in developing the concept and bringing it to fruition.
The finished portrait depicts the full Council and also reveals the four students in action. This makes the shooting process transparent and shows the different aspects of their creative work.
The end product is an authentic portrait of the collegiate body of the 2026 Federal Council (the seven Federal Council members and the Federal Chancellor).
From Left to right: Federal Chancellor Viktor Rossi (GLP), Federal Councillors Beat Jans (SP), Albert Rösti (SVP) and Ignazio Cassis (FDP), Federal President Guy Parmelin (SVP), Federal Councilors Karin Keller-Sutter (FDP), Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (SP) and Martin Pfister (Die Mitte).
